Job Description – Performing Arts Teacher (Dance or Theatre)
We are seeking an experienced and innovative dance or theatre teacher who is excited to work in a
blossoming charter school environment and who has a deep appreciation for exposing students to the
Develop and follow an appropriate curriculum that aligns to the TN Fine Arts Standards while
establishing a safe learning environment for the students to strengthen their technique, build their
confidence and enhance their creativity.
Engaging in ongoing assessment of student progress using a variety of means(videotape,
portfolios, oral/written feedback), maintaining accurate records, and using assessment data to
tailor instruction to individual student needs
Maintaining frequent communication with students, students’ families, colleagues, and other
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order
to maintain and improve professional competence.
Design and direct student productions and oversee creative aspects of all in school and after
school performances and events.
Experience organizing and managing a student-centered classroom that includes age-appropriate,
culturally responsive classroom management practices.
Working knowledge and experience teaching all levels of Dance or Theatre
Excellent verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability and willingness to connect with
students and staff
Classroom management and organizational skills
A passionate belief in Promise Academy’s mission, values, and educational model.
B.F.A. or minor in Performing Arts from an accredited institution of higher learning or in the
process of fulfilling licensure requirements for K-5 certification.
Minimum of one year of experience teaching fine arts to early elementary grades or active
membership in a performing company.
