Hutchison School, a PK2-12 school for girls, seeks a part-time vocal music teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. This position will teach fifth and sixth-grade music, conduct a middle school choir, teach and conduct the upper-school Vocal Point, an auditioned vocal ensemble, and assist or lead several musical activities such as chapel program, music direction of school musicals, piano accompaniment for programs, advise college audition videos, etc. Candidates should be conversant with current practices in vocal music training, culturally responsive teaching, and willing to collaborate on creative endeavors with and for the girls. Most teachers also supervise an advisory group and perform duties such as carpool, study hall oversight, and class trip chaperoning, as necessary.
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching vocal music in an independent school setting and will be comfortable teaching girls in a student-centered environment. They will also be adept at playing the piano. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and advanced degrees are preferred. Candidates should be passionate about both the field of music and the equitable development of adolescent girls.
