Job Title: Part-time Adult TEFL Teacher 

Position Summary: 

The Collierville Literacy Council’s (CLC) Summer Intensive English Program is seeking an energetic  and insightful teacher who is willing to work with beginner and intermediate adult English students in an immersion environment. The program’s inaugural year creates a wonderful chance for teachers  to work closely with the ESOL Program Coordinator to give feedback and help build a program that  is not only academically challenging for the students, but also rewarding and better adjusted for future teachers. The ideal candidate is a tolerant problem-solver who is TEFL certified and ready to  tackle the challenges of beginner and intermediate immersion.  

Position Responsibilities 

  • Working 4 hours a week per class and students assigned for 8 weeks 
  • Planning, preparing, and delivering level-appropriate lessons that include grammar, vocabulary,  and pronunciation to meet the CLC’s standard for semester language growth Encouraging pupil development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills Promoting a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom experience for beginning and  intermediate learners 
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes 
  • Communicates with the program’s one-on-one volunteer tutors about student’s progress and  any problem areas that should be addressed during tutoring times once a week Checking and assessing pupils’ work 
  • Reporting student results to the ESOL Program Manager bi-weekly 
  • Helping students develop learning strategies 
  • Other duties assigned 

Knowledge, Skills And Ability 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area 
  • TEFL certified 
  • Strong classroom management skills required 
  • Highly organized; flexible in meeting the needs of onboarding students 
  • Ability to create lesson plans to meet the needs of a diverse student population Sparking a love and a confidence for English language learning 
  • Enunciating and speaking clearly 
  • Technologically savvy 
  • Experience in immersion teaching 
  • Experience in multicultural situations 
  • Teamwork

  • Problem Solver

Preferred Skills 

  • Bilingual or Advanced Spanish Speaker 

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

  • Work in-person with a small group of adult learners 
  • Vaccinated teachers are highly preferred
